You are helping rural families, like these children in Kumbhar village in Nepal, to become strong and resilient.
We were shocked and saddened to hear of the devastation caused by the earthquakes that struck Nepal earlier this year. But your efforts for Curry for Change help us to support families in vulnerable situations all year round, so they are better prepared to deal with emergencies.
Find Your Feet's work in Nepal helps people from isolated, rural communities to feed their families, to boost their income and to build stronger foundations for themselves and their family.
We work in the Banke District in mid–west Nepal with the Tharu tribal community, who are some of the poorest and most neglected people in the country. Although they were not directly hit, the earthquakes still brought tragedy and struggle into people’s lives.
The area in which the Tharu people live offers few opportunities for work, so many men are forced to migrate to towns and cities, including Kathmandu, which was devastated by the earthquakes and was where most deaths occurred. In many families, they lost not only people they love but also their breadwinners.
But with your support, we are helping women like Durga Rana to provide for her family
Meet Durga Rana and her son, in Nepal. Durga had little means of earning money to support her family. But with the help of a women’s Village Savings & Loans group started by Find Your Feet, Durga was able to borrow the equivalent of around £152 to set up a small poultry business at her home.
With a regular income, Durga is now able to send her children to school, buy medicine when her family is ill, and face difficult situations more easily.
'With only a small bit of land, I was only ever able to grow enough for my family, I had nothing to sell, no income. But I've been able to buy 100 chicks, a coop, and some grain, and now I raise chickens to sell. I am earning, so now we can cope with emergencies'.
Local women’s groups like this one provide not only financial help, but emotional support. They give women the opportunity to talk to one another about their problems and have the confidence to drive forward change in their community.
Curry for Change is a campaign that raises vital funds to help rural families in Nepal, India, Malawi and Zimbabwe fight hunger and poverty. So, by hosting a curry night and donating to Find Your Feet, you really can help women like Durga to provide for her family.
And remember, every penny you raise this year will be matched by our partner Natco Foods, so your donations will make double the difference!
